How to Prep Your HVAC System for Fall

Fall is quickly approaching. Before it hits you’ll want to make sure your HVAC system is in tip top shape, which means safe, operational and energy-efficient! Below are a few suggestions on how you can make sure your HVAC system is ready for the chill of fall.

  • Change your air filter and continue doing so on a monthly basis for best performance of your system.
  • Clean off all of the air register and return grills with a vacuum cleaner to remove all dust and debris.
  • Check the exhaust flues outside to be sure they aren’t being blocked by branches or animal nests.
  • Open all of the air vents in your home. Make sure they aren’t being blocked by furniture, book shelves, boxes, etc.
  • Cover your outdoor AC with an AC unit cover. This will keep the leaves and debris out of the unit. Turn off the circuit breaker to the AC out door unit; this will help you to remember to remove the AC cover in the spring before restarting your AC.
  • If your system incorporates a humidifier change the evaporator pad and clean interior of the humidifier.
  • Call a professional - our HVAC professionals know how to properly maintain your system to perform at peak efficiency.

Are your allergies bothering you? It’s important to keep in mind that indoor air quality can affect your family’s health and well-being. Not to worry, we have a solution for you! The right humidity level in your home can increase your home's comfort level and decrease your heating and cooling bills. In fact, controlling your home's humidity level is one of the most important elements in maintaining a comfortable living environment.

This time of year we recommend investing in a dehumidifier. It will remove the additional humidity from your home, so it won’t be as sticky inside your home as it is outside! A dehumidifier works by reducing water vapor. It condenses the water vapor in the air, converting it to liquid form and effectively pulling it out of the air before the air is recycled back into your living space.

Are you interested in cleaner, healthier indoor air? If so, call Airflow Service Company today at (703) 393-7993, and we will help supply and install the latest air quality products.
